Microsoft recently released the public preview of Windows Small Business Server 2008, previously known by the code name “Cougar”. We are currently evaluating the beta software and are excited about the new features it can offer our clients.
Editions
Windows Small Business Server 2008 comes in two editions, Standard and Premium.
Standard Edition will offer the following technologies:
- Windows Server 2008 Standard Technologies
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Standard Edition
- Microsoft Sharepoint Services 3.0
- Microsoft Server Update Services 3.0
- Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server
- Windows Live OneCare for Server
- Integration with Office Live Small Business
Premium Edition will offer all of the above plus:
- Windows Server 2008 Standard technologies for SBS Premium
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition for Small Business
Windows Small Business Server 2008 Premium Edition becomes a second server solution. Standard Edition will run on one hardware server and Premium Edition will run on two hardware servers, with the second server running Windows Server and SQL Server for Line of Business applications
